SURJ NoVA and SURJ DC are committed to holding space for conversations about racial justice through Deep Canvassing in Virginia. Our next opportunity is Saturday, October 28th; focused on talking to neighbors about racial issues.
Please sign up here to participate on Saturday, October 28th from 11-5, location TBA: https://goo.gl/forms/Z6xnnz3xCHE4daSv1
Join SURJ NOVA and SURJ DC to have important conversations with Northern VA residents about race and racial justice. We’re using long-term, research-based strategies meant to push our neighbors to collectively re-think their support for systemic white supremacy. Every session is 6 hours long, and volunteers should plan to join for the entire time. We do a thorough training, including a practice, go out on the doors, and then come back to share what we’ve learned. Thanks so much for being part of this important work!
If you’ve been Deep Canvassing with SURJ Nova and SURJ DC before, as we have in the past, returning canvassers will have a chance to try out new personal stories, or refine their old ones to best create a space of vulnerability for canvasees in our current 2.0 training.
We invite you to get more involved with our event and are always looking to help people plug in; there are lots of easy ways to do so! We need volunteers to cook either one lunch dish, or an entire lunch. We need volunteers willing to do some data entry. We need folks who can help us make some outreach phone calls. We need a couple volunteers who can show up early and help us greet canvassers and create a welcoming atmosphere. If you can show up in any of these ways, please contact SURJDeepCanvass@gmail.com.
A note about the day: We will also be asking folks to contribute to the costs of food as they are able. If it’s possible to kick in $5-15 on the day, please consider doing so. No one participating in the day’s training, dining, and canvassing is under obligation to contribute.
